COVID-19 Post 4

April 21, 2020

As an ongoing public service to patients and the general public accessing this site, Tomar Pain Centers will be posting regular updates on the COVID-19 infection in Arizona and the USA.

In Arizona there are currently 5,064 people that have tested positive for COVID. Keep in mind that Arizona has a population of almost 8,000,000 people. Maricopa County has 51% of the acute COVID cases (2,600). Also, people who tested positive are only 8% of all people who were tested.

Of the vast majority of people tested, 90% of those who test positive will remain asymptomatic or will have very mild (cold flu) like symptoms. Humans have a very effective auto-immune system which creates anti bodies and fights whatever pathogens are around including the COVID virus.

As stated previously the people who develop severe symptoms which may require hospitalization are those whose immune systems are compromised, these are people with Cancer, Chronic Pulmonary Obstructive Disease, Heart Problems, Diabetes and the like. Those individuals have the greatest risk if exposed to any pathogens. Keep in mind in Arizona over 120 people die daily from various causes. Currently only 187 deaths are related to COVID.

So far this flu/viral season (October 2019-March 2020) over 38 million people have been sickened with the flu over 40,000 people have died this flu/viral season in the USA and that number continues to rise. COVID deaths are at 42,000.

Remember frequent hand washing four to five times a day depending on people to people contacts, does prove to limit exposure. Gargling with “Antiseptic liquids like Listerine” swishing for 30 seconds, four to five times a day kills most, if not all, pathogens in the mouth and throat for several hours.

Last but not least, the weather in Arizona is gorgeous this time of year. Go and stay outdoors as much as you can, the health benefits of sunlight and fresh air are well known. COVID does not live in the outdoors for long.

Tomar Pain Centers’ are open daily to aid in treating muscle skeletal pains and aches. The clinic follows strict CDC guidelines in providing clean and sterile environments. Call today to make an appointment.

We are actively monitoring the changing situation around COVID-19 and our staff in both the Casa Grande and Prescott locations are meeting regularly to ensure that we are in the best position to continue to meet your pain management needs.

COVID-19 Post 3

New Post April 15, 2020

As an ongoing public service to patients and the general public accessing this site, Tomar Pain Centers will be posting weekly and sometimes biweekly updates on the COVID-19 infection in Arizona and the USA.

This information is provided to hopefully dispel some of the misinformation that is published by the Media, Government officials and other “professionals.”

In Arizona there are currently 3,800 people that have tested positive for COVID. Keep in mind that Arizona has a population of almost 8,000,000 people. Maricopa County has 55% of the acute COVID cases (2,100). Also, people who tested positive are only 8% of all people who were tested.

The vast majority of people tested who are positive will remain asymptomatic or will have very mild (cold flu) like symptoms. Humans have a very effective auto-immune system which creates anti bodies and fights whatever pathogens are around including the COVID virus.

It is important to keep all this in perspective. 8,000 people die daily in the USA from innumerable causes, that is 250,000 deaths in just the last thirty days. Deaths from the COVID are 29,000 in the last 60 days or 500 deaths a day. One-third of the total COVID-19 deaths in the United States is in New York City.

COVID-19 Post 1

My name is Dr. Tom Masters, D.O. I am the physician here at Tomar Pain Centers. There are many concerns people are having at this time about the COVID-19 virus and its spread throughout Arizona and the United States.

Some facts that are pertinent about COVID-19 especially in Arizona. The COVID-19 virus is part of a family of “cold-flu” viruses and is very temperature sensitive. This is why the greatest spread is in cold-wet-damp environments. Arizona’s climate, hot and dry, is extremely effective in limiting the spread of any flu viruses.

The virus is not airborne per se, but can be spread by mucous droplets, coughing, from infected people. Precautions such as, frequent hand washing, cleaning surfaces, and not touching the face with hands are very effective in curbing the spread of any virus or bacteria.

Even if exposed to COVID-19 or any flu virus the chances of symptoms arising are less than one in a hundred. Those who become symptomatic generally have mild flu like symptoms for a few days. Severe symptoms occur only in those individuals who are immune comprised with heart, lung, gastric pathologies.

Lastly, COVID-19 “epidemic” is nowhere near the medical problem of 2009-2010 “Swine Flu” outbreak. Then over 60 million people were exposed, and thousands died. Most people today do not even remember this “epidemic.”

As the Bible states eloquently, “Be Not afraid.” “This too shall pass.”
